Washington, D.C. — June 17, 2016 —The Takata air bag recalls will take more time, and dealers need to be ready.

The NHTSA has planned out the next stage of this recall in a series of five phases. According to Automotive News, pacing out the recall this way will help manufacturers respond to each new wave one at a time. The agency determined which air bag inflators were most at risk based on the age of the systems, as well as possible problems with humidity.

Knowing the future plan for this recall, dealers should prepare to help owners get the service they need. Since the NHTSA wants to prioritize all affected vehicles, dealers can follow suit, using tools to create a list for the units that need the most urgent attention.

Our blog is constantly covering the Takata air bag recall effort. For more about this development, see our blog from May 4th. Thanks for watching.
