CarMax Criticized for Selling Vehicles with Open Recalls
Dealer,
I came across some information that I thought was very critical to your dealership and how it is perceived by your prospective customers and the community. Please share it with your management team and know that I am able to assist with information, education and comprehensive recall management solutions that will keep you out of hot water.
Just about every dealership in the US, franchised or not, is aware that it is illegal to sell a new vehicle that has an open recall. It’s also common knowledge amongst the dealership community that these laws do not apply to pre-owned vehicles. As is the case with most dealerships, CarMax continues to sell vehicles with open recalls that have not been repaired. However, a recently-released report from Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety Foundation (CARS), MASSPIRG Education Fund, and the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) took aim at CarMax. An audit of nearly 1,700 CarMax vehicles in eight states revealed that more than one in four (27{25fe8d719f8aa7fee9d6d1ab25a6c722d6f7475fb64135bdf6c46b52738109f1}) have unrepaired safety recalls – clearly a shot at their reputation as a trusted dealer. Don’t let this happen to you.
Recall Masters has obtained a copy of the report, which is available here for download. Let’s discuss when you have a moment.
